National Minimum Wage Hikes

The National Living Wage is due to increase by 6.6% from April 2022.

The media always claims the impact of the April rise in the minimum wage “ramps up” costs.

Although it’s not so easy to fill a job paying the minimum these post-pandemic days.

Even then we would be behind our erstwhile friends in Europe.

What effect does this 2022 6.6% increase in minimum wage have on your business?

Normally, as the base wage increases so do all the other salaries. You must maintain percentage differentials, mustn’t you?

The impact on your total business costs will vary by sector but could be a 2.0% increase. This, at a time when lots of other costs are rising too.

Is this causing gloom in your Boardroom?

Why not make small improvements to working practices every day, with an evolutionary approach, that over a year recovers the 6.6% increase in labour costs?

Do you think each of your employees could save forty-five seconds a day on day one, then ninety seconds on day two and so on?

Here is a list of ten, time wasters that could easily save your employees five seconds more, each and every day:

  1. The IT isn’t working
  2. Waiting for a hot drink
  3. Poor time keeping, start and finish
  4. Meetings don’t start and finish on time
  5. Searching for information, documents or materials
  6. Waiting for a decision
  7. Poor lighting, seating, work space
  8. Checking their mobile phone
  9. The email inbox distractions
  10. Because nobody will notice any way!

An additional forty-five seconds a day saved every day. Why not go for a minute, then you’ll be ahead when next year’s minimum wage increase comes through?
