Making people want to work
Do you think people work because they are paid to work? If that is your belief then you probably won’t watch this and you certainly won’t believe it! People work because they want to work. People GO TO work because they need money to live, but what they do when they get there is due to other reasons. Perhaps you believe in close supervision and performance reviews? That is marginally better if at all, but why pay for all those people, processes and the high recruitment costs? That sounds crazy to me.

Management is managing people not things! I know we like to label people as ‘human resources’ so it is easier to think of them as ‘units of labour’! What a shame that the Management books are wrong! But really! There are much better ways to get work done than bribery or coercion. The better way is cheaper, more efficient, more productive and more profitable. It is also better for the soul – yours and the ‘human resources’. Watch the video and count how many of the symptoms you recognise! Please comment on the video but, please, no names!
