Today Has Been A Good Day!

Motivating people at work is quite a difficult thing to achieve. The correct actions are simple in themselves but choosing which of the vast range of possible actions to implement, is complicated.

The right action depends on the organization culture, the work content, the individual’s aspirations and, of course, the desired behaviour.

One thing I do recommend, however, is a daily note of achievement.

Everybody should know, at the end of each day, whether they’ve had a good day today.

How well does your organization do this?

To make the day’s work even more motivating, the note of achievement should be under the control of, and measured by, the individual.

Nothing is more de-motivating than having a message shoved under your nose showing how badly you did yesterday! It’s too late then to do anything about it!

Feedback of achievement should be timely, allowing you to vary your work rate or call for help, if the day’s target achievement is slipping away.

You can adjust the feedback, or better, the measurement to provide timely insight toward the early middle of the work period.

There is something satisfying to do with knowing today has been a good day.
